While trimming hedges, Sarah found the egg clutch and brought it inside to hatch safely, out of harm’s way.
After many days and thinking, maybe this is a dud, BOOM, mantis babies everywhere! (In containment)
Water, food, sunlight, plants to crawl all over and netting to hang from, they grew and molted. As they went through stages of molting, we let some go to prevent overcrowding, so they didn’t eat each other (they do, and some did). The ones that didn’t leave on their own hung out until the next round of releases.
The last stage of releasing was only a few mantises, about the length of your pinky finger, that were now eating crickets. As they ventured out of the cage, into the big scary world, a last captive snack, and I got very much in her personal space for you to enjoy the beauty and carnage of nature!
