When it came to picking a destination for our summer vacation, we wanted something a little bit different, we also wanted some damn good food. So we made a fine choice for what would be an epic trip to New Orleans!
After landing and getting settled, we set out to grab dinner and get a little familiar with the area. The scenery here is just awesome to walk through!
While we’re here, might as well check out a gator tour and see what it’s like out on the bayou, since most of our diet on this trip will be food coming from here! We didn’t get to hold a baby alligator, but we did see some pretty interesting wildlife. Afterwards, we took a walk through the city around Bourbon Street and ended with some amazing live music.
Aside from all of the amazing food on this trip, we also had to check out the other two things we love to dabble in: coffee and beer! We made our way around to French Truck Coffee after breakfast, to sip on our way to try some beer. We stopped at NOLA brewing for a tasting before heading up towards City Park.
We walked through one of New Orleans’ famous cemeteries that we learned are built this way due to the flooding. The place was absolutely beautiful!
Walking through City Park, the foliage is just awesome. Everywhere you walk are giant oak trees covered in the craziest looking Spanish Moss, which we would learn is neither Spanish, nor is it moss.
We found another brewery outside the park, Second Line Brewing, for another tasting, and after dinner, we hit Bourbon Street and again ended out night with some incredible live music!
Our last full day in NOLA was a walking food tour by Doctor Gumbo Tours that took us all through the best dishes, drinks, and snacks New Orleans has to offer, and it was absolutely worth every penny!
Bourbon Street is a very different scene mid day, so calm and orderly. But at night, it’s absolutely bursting at the seams! The music you find at every turn is the best way you can end your night.
Our last day, we had to make the most of it while we had some time. After an amazing breakfast at the Ruby Slipper, we had another tasting, but went a little harder than beer. The Sazerac House was so incredible to walk through and their sample drinks were delicious; we definitely saved a couple recipe cards on our way out. After having our last beignets, we said our goodbyes to this incredible trip and started thinking about where our next adventure is going to take us!
