The next lighthouse on our tour, took us to Atlantic City, where the Absecon Lighthouse stands at 171 feet tall, the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, third-tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States! Atop the lighthouse, after a 228 step climb, you can meet Buddy, who will happily discuss the history of the lighthouse. Here we learned the first lighting in January 1857, the fixed Fresnel lens, made of lead glass, weighed 12,800 pounds! From up top, you can see a good portion of Atlantic City and the bay.
